Letchworth Garden City

A studio, not a gym floor.

Whatever level you walk in at, there are nine reformers, small classes and instructors who know your name.

Nine reformers. That's the whole class.

Nine reformers. That's the whole class.

There are nine Balanced Body reformers in the room, imported from California, and that is the ceiling on the class. Small classes mean we know your name, your goals, and adapt every exercise to you in real time.

Coached in the room, not shouted at from the front.

Coached in the room, not shouted at from the front.

Every instructor here is a specialist, including a pelvic health physiotherapist who works with the English National Ballet, APPI and classically trained teachers, and pre and post natal specialists. Your body deserves that level of care.

Beginners sit next to regulars.

Beginners sit next to regulars.

One class. One exercise. Three levels. The resistance is fully adjustable, so the reformer meets you exactly where you are, and nobody in the room can tell which spring you are on.

Nobody is sold a contract.

Pay as you go, in class packs, with classes morning, lunchtime and evening across the week. Book the slots that actually fit your life and stop when they do not.

Never done it before

What reformer Pilates actually is

No jargon, no prior knowledge. Here is the short version.

  • The machine

A reformer is a sprung carriage that slides on rails, with a footbar and straps. The springs either add resistance or take weight off you, which is what makes the same exercise workable for a first-timer and hard for a regular.

  • What a class looks like

Fifty minutes, low impact, full body. You work through controlled sequences lying, kneeling and standing on the carriage, with an instructor setting your springs and correcting you as you go.

  • It meets you where you are

The resistance is fully adjustable, so whether you are completely new to Pilates or a seasoned regular, the reformer meets you exactly where you are. Nobody else in the room knows what spring you are on.

  • How it differs from mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is bodyweight on the floor. The reformer adds spring resistance and support, which opens up far more exercises and is kinder on joints while being harder on muscles.

It is not a stretching class

Reformer Pilates is not just for women, it is not just stretching, and it is not easy. It is also not about punishing your body. It is about working with it. Bring yourself and prepare to be humbled.

Over 35 classes a week

Our classes

Morning, lunchtime and evening across the week, so you can find a slot that actually fits your life. Every class is 50 minutes.

Beginners reformer class at Studio Core, four members lying with legs in the straps

Fundamental (Beginners)

Start here. Learn the machine.

Your first proper introduction to the reformer, taken at a pace that lets you learn what every spring, strap and lever does. Nothing is assumed and nothing is rushed. If you have never been on a reformer, this is the one to book.

Mixed Level reformer class, three members in quadruped balancing weighted balls

Mixed Level

One class. One exercise. Three levels.

The studio's core class, and the one most of the timetable is made of. Every exercise is offered at three levels in the same room, so a first-timer and a regular can do the same sequence side by side. Beginners are genuinely welcome.

Strength & Sculpt

Reformer, plus dumbbells.

Reformer work with dumbbells layered over it, so you get spring resistance and load in the same 50 minutes. Harder than it sounds and the closest thing here to a strength session. Come to a Mixed Level or Fundamental first if you are brand new.

Mums & Babies

Bring the baby. Friday, 10:30am.

A postnatal reformer class where your baby comes with you, taught with pre and post natal specialist training in the room. Built around what a body actually needs after having a baby, not a general class with the intensity turned down.

Nine specialists

Meet your instructors

Pick a class, or pick a teacher. Every instructor here is a specialist, including a pelvic health physiotherapist and pre and post natal specialists, because your body deserves that level of care.

Rachel, reformer Pilates and fitness instructor at Studio Core

Rachel

Heidi, classically trained Pilates instructor at Studio Core

Heidi

Classical Pilates, comprehensively trained

Teaching since 2021

Found Pilates during her own recovery, after an injury ended high-impact gym training. Comprehensively classically trained with J.Pilates in 2024, and her classes are precise, technical and leave people unreasonably cheerful.

Gail, reformer, barre and aerial yoga instructor at Studio Core

Gail

Reformer, Barre & Aerial Yoga

Retrained in 2015

A former molecular biologist in pharma who took a career break after a period of poor health and never went back. Brings a properly evidence-based approach to recovery and longevity, and her classes are fun, focused and harder than they look.

Joyce, reformer instructor and Level 3 personal trainer at Studio Core

Joyce

Reformer & Level 3 Personal Trainer

30+ years in fitness

Three decades in the industry and qualified on the reformer in 2024. Her sessions are strong, sweaty and designed to challenge, whether you are brand new or a regular.

Freddie, reformer Pilates and yoga instructor at Studio Core

Freddie

Reformer Pilates & Yoga

Dance and performance background

Came to the reformer in 2019 to rehab an injury, which is exactly what the machine was invented for, and it became non-negotiable. Creative, mindful classes with a lot of variety and a focus on functional strength.

Elyse, APPI mat and reformer Pilates instructor at Studio Core

Elyse

APPI Mat & Reformer Pilates

Trained at Bird College

A musical theatre background and a knack for making first-timers feel like regulars from the moment they walk in. Classes are fun, dynamic and, in her words, always have a touch of spice.

Charlie, reformer Pilates instructor, personal trainer and sports massage therapist at Studio Core

Charlie

Reformer Pilates, PT & Sports Massage

Since 2021

Combines reformer work with sports massage and personal training knowledge, so progressions are layered carefully rather than piled on. You will leave thoroughly worked, in the best possible way.

Angie, reformer, matwork and pre and post natal Pilates instructor at Studio Core

Angie

Reformer, Matwork & Pre/Post-Natal

With the studio since it opened

Came to Pilates over a decade ago to rebuild mobility after reconstructive breast cancer surgery, then retrained in 2022 after more than ten years in primary education. No two of her classes are ever the same.

Our story

It came from real life.

Studio Core wasn't something I planned for years or dreamed up in a boardroom. It came from real life, the kind so many of us are living. A demanding job, two kids, a dog, a house to run, and somewhere in the middle of it all, I realised I'd completely stopped making time for myself. Then I found Reformer Pilates, and those 50 minutes became the part of my week I looked forward to most.

So I left my corporate job and opened Studio Core, creating a calm, welcoming space where you can leave the outside world at the door and focus on yourself for a while. That is why there are nine Balanced Body reformers in the room and not twenty, why every instructor here is a specialist I picked myself, and why nobody is ever sold a contract. You come when it suits your life, not ours.

The Wednesday morning group

They arrived as strangers

The Wednesday morning group started as complete strangers. Now they grab coffee together after class, meet outside the studio, and have built friendships that go a long way beyond the reformers.

That is the part nobody tells you about before they join, and it is the part that keeps people coming back long after the intro offer ends. Elsewhere on the timetable, two members mentioned in class recently that they have shaved seconds off their 10k PBs since joining.

[PLACEHOLDER, replace with a real member quote and written permission] I booked the intro offer on my own and spent the whole first class convinced I would be the worst one there. Nobody made me feel like that for a second. Six months on it is the same class every Wednesday and coffee after, and it is the only hour of the week that is genuinely mine.

1:1 and private sessions

If you would rather start one to one, or you are coming back from an injury, private sessions run in the same studio on the same reformers. They are also a good way to build confidence before joining a group class, and with a pelvic health physiotherapist and pre and post natal specialists on the team, they are genuinely useful for rehab rather than just a smaller class.

  • 1:1 session, £55
  • 1:2 session, £75, so bring a friend or a partner
  • Small group sessions, price on request
  • Useful for injury recovery, pre and post natal work, or building confidence before a group class
